Format Requirements for Mailing List Submissions

Submissions to the Area 51 and Ufomind mailing lists must conform to these
requirements:

-- Paragraphs must be neatly formatted, and no line may be longer than 75
characters.  (Longer lines are split by some mailing programs.)

-----------------------This line is 75 characters -------------------------

-- There should be a single blank line between each paragraph. Avoid
double blank lines except where you want to deligniate a new text section.

-- The text of a message you are responding to should be quoted by
inserting "> " in front of each line.  You should quote only the minimal
amount of material that is necessary to tell the reader what you are
responding to.  (Such quotes are automatically displayed in red on the
web version.)

-- Whenever re-posting a document you found on the web, you must include
the URL where you found it.  (Even if the document no longer exists at the
location.) Example:

From: http://www.server.com/this/doc/found/here.html

-- When re-posting an email or newsgroup message, remove any superfluous
headers from the top.  Usually, all you need to keep is "Date:", "From:",
"Subject:", "To:" and "Newsgroups:".

-- Try to remove superfluous lines and text that does not contribute to
the content of the message.

DESIREABLE:

-- Authors are encouraged to insert "Index:" lines at the end of their
postings so they are filed correctly on the web.  (The moderator has
the right to overrule these selections.)  See documentation on the
Index pages below.
