It is written by "Condor", a Parascope operative who at this time wishes to remain anonmynous. Parascope has, however, confirmed Condor's indentity and the facts of this report and stand by it's assertions as 100% accurate.) Area 51 is a secret Air Force base secluded deep within a wide-ranging tract of restricted governmet land in the remote Nevada desert. About two hours' drive north-northwest of Las Vegas, Area 51 -- also known as Groom Lake, S-4 and Papoose lake--is shrouded in mystery. Generally believed to be the training and development zone for the military's most secret project, particulary spy planes and stealth technology, rumors of something more sinister taking place at Area 51 persist despite any compelling evidence. Widespread speculation ranges about exactly what goes on at the base. A number of people have reported strange sightings in the sky above the base, and others contend the military uses the base to study downed and captured alien craft, even aliens themselves, eventually using the alien technology in military projects. "Our Journey Getting there": On the night of December 8th, apprx. 10:45pm, Maria Elisa de Barros, Sergel Sanchez and myself, Karen Lustrup, entered Area 51 from Interstate 15 north out of Las Vegas. We followed 93 north through Alamo and Ash Springs, and took off at state highway 375 and went east/north towards the small town of Rachel. We turned onto the dirt road at marker 29 and followed another four miles until the road splitt into three directions and followed the middle one; another well-groomed dirt road for about another mile: Groom Lake Road..and here one could follow the road another 8 miles in to the boundary of the base. Since the boundary is neither marked or fenced ~ we were weary as to NOT cross the boarder that could have resulted in getting detained. We drove carefully, and watched for any sign that may have said we were getting close OR there. There was nothing, ~ our senses was telling us we were...close enough. Outside of the car, looking up ~ there was as Sergel had told, from his previous trip to Area 51, just three days earlier, a 'fake cloud' hanging over the area. Everywhere else on the sky was perfectly clear. This 'coud' tonight, had a shape of a circle, open in the middle. Stationary. It was not going, ...anywhere. All maps marking the lakes in the area on public maps state that these lakes are "dry". Sergel however, told about 'a' lake, very close to the base, filled with water. There's rumors that H.A.A.R.P. (weather control) is taken in use at Area 51 ~ so as to create 'fake clouds' over the base functioning as a cover for their 'shuttle training' of manmade aircraft, or testing of extraterrestrial crafts. The 'cloud' was at least evident. Another thing he breifed me about was a new device called G-22's. These are lazarbeams with micro micronphones, ~ beams hit the car and can then tap into whatever is being said, inside. We kept an eye open for any such beams he had encountered earlier. No red lazar beams... We then saw lights coming towards us from the base area at rapid speed, and we climbed back into the car and drove out, in fear of having come too close. We had seen no signs...and felt we had at least another mile or so into the inner limits - still felt 'safer' to move back out, just in case.. We drove until the forked drive cross, and stopped again. The lights behind us ceased it's persuance. We stepped out and the first sightings were lights bouncing, and moving within the cloud formation. Distinct lights, in distinct jumping motion. We watched flickers, flashes, and sparks ~ also tremendous rapid 'streaks' of light from base to cloud. We need to remember the weather was good & clear. That this 'cloud' also hung farily 'low' over the base, apprx. 25-40 m up, and was about another 15- 20 m tall. The diameter of the clouds 'ring' could be estimated to apprx. maybe up a kilometer. For those haven't been to the area, I can mention there are mountain ranges surrounding AREA 51, though sort of pulled back, and not mentionably high. A hill between the area and Rachel going north, could close from free viewing that direction ~ yet there's a very good veiw in all directions. Sergel and I were both active seeking the sky around us. Maria Elisa was in the back seat, more withdrawn and very tired from a couple of days we had spent in Sedona & Flaggstaff. She had slept for the most on her way up, and dosed off an on continously through the whole night and entire show. Now, another set of lights came towards us, from a hillside in direction south. This came towards us in an immense speed that we couldn't quiet understand on loose dirt roads. We got back in the car ~ stepping on the peddle, making our way even further out. The feeling was intimidating... to say the least. We threw our camcorders and camra into a cooler box, and made an escape route once again, this time if possible faster than the first. Perhaps also the intention of our persecuters. Sergel was ready to get out for good at that point ~ head home. Not that I couldn't undertsand his view, ~ I certainly did, but I felt determinded to not show fear and 'give in' to the 'system' of chase & run. I had come clear across the world to experience in full and did not have easily access to re-do another trip convinently. Perhaps many that come here do get scared off and don't get the opportunity to get to see what we saw & experienced by the end of the night. We were off grounds, on a now semi-public road and they couldn't touch us even if they wanted too. They could scare us, but not take us in. That gave me the only security I needed at this point to convince that we stay on. Sergel was stepping on it, and I tried to calm him. TRANSCRIPT FROM VIDEO TAPING: S: Shit, shit.... does you see the lights? K: No. no... I don't see a thing. S: Any lazars? K: Nope, not a thing. (head turned backwards) Relax, don't drive so fast! S: Where the hell did they go? K: THERE'S NOTHING... Okay, shall we stop again? S: No, I'm going to stop down there, it's safer to stop down there...Stopping... K: Let's see...where'd that thing go ..I want to see the lights in the cloud again..where, OH, there it is..see it? ( just looking upward)... S: Yep. there it is..oh, shit - here's comes the car ot truck again! See it? PAN ON IT! I'm out of here! K: The lights blinking there in the cloud, it's .. S: Shiiitt, oh shit....Jesus.... here they come... K: Go easy...eeaasssy, not too fast... S: Oh man.... shittt. they can haul some ass... K: I know, it's ok though ....DON'T show fear... If you show fear, you've lost, they've won... go eaaasy...! S: Oh man... S: Lights gone.... where'd they go? K: I don't know... S: Man what a rush..!! OOOOO whooo! Ok, look for 'em UFO's.. K: Oh yeah, it's right there in the cloud, two of them, shining through, one in the middle one on the top of it to the right... Hope the video will pick them up.... There's two of them... (hanging out the window filming)... S: What a rush!! That was fat! I thought we were dead - he was jamming, full throddle towards us.. Oh my God... (still driving, ~ front lights are off) I hope we're going the right way... Parking the car again along the road, we climbed out to now really get piece of the action. As far as we could see in the dark, (thanking that 'cloud' being there ~ it gave some proportion as to how near we still were the area), we found out we saw just as much from here & having the luxury of feeling 'safer'. Minutes later, new flashes within the cloud ~ movements, then totally still. No lights. And 40 seconds later they started again. New 'strreaks' flashed up from the ground into the cloud. Now it starts for real: Transcript as follows from video taping. Our videos ~for some reason didn't pick up what we were seeing, even though the ships were extremely close at times, but it recorded our voices: (TO BE NOTED: The good thing about the area is that it is RESTRICTED AIR SPACE ~ meaning there is NO other aircrafts around other than belonging to area51. The only commericial flights are those planes called: "Janes", bringing supplies to and fro from Las Vegas which occurs some every other two hours. So whatever seen here, is not something else to be mistaken of. ) TRANSCRIPT FROM THE VIDEO: (Standing outside the car once again...) K: Ok there it is... On the ground.. watch it... WOW, did you see it flash? From cloud to earth? There's a light on the ground, but it's still... Ah, there's it is, it's blinking...oh my god....wow...WOW!!!! It came from the cloud!!! See that flash??? S: Yeah,... man! K: Why isn't the camra picking this up!? S: Neither does mine? S: ...They're in the cloud right there... K: Let's follow the light on the ground over there...it changed shape from round to oblong... S: I see it... gee ..Keeping one eye here, one there... there coming from everywhere. K: There's a light...there's a LIGHT... Smack in the hill...just watch it. Opps, 'turned off ~ gone!" K: There, the cloud one... S: Yeah, that's what I'm watching.. K: Oh, here's comes a car again... S: Oh, Man...!! (stressed) K: Oh, look at it...looks like front lights.... S: Want to get out of here? K: Nope. I'm staying... They can't do anything... S: Look the lights, the frontlights, they're getting smaller - it's moving backwards.... K: It IS moving backwards, ...getting smaller...but we should have seen red lights, not white... is this an optical illusion or what...? S: Man here it somes again (rapid speed forward...) I'm out of here, throw the cameras..!!! We dive into the car again, Maria Elisa wonders what morbid drive is driving us... and Sergel says it's the ships, I say it is because of the appearntly 'cover up' of the place, and also that I come from Europe, bringing AREA 51 'closer' in a sense to me ~ than for them living so close by... I need to know first hand.. I need to experience it first hand and not just read reports, and make judgements. I have to do the foot & leg work and research, and that's what research is, ~ sometimes getting close to the flame... Now we're out on the 'real' public road... Real safe, from government that is... At this point, I felt there was more to fear from them than extraterrestrials should they be there.. Marialisa doses off inside the car, blanket and all.. It was freezing out there this night... S:(sergel is stressed up, excitement, and fear) K: Relax, this is an 'ordinary road', be calm..it'll be..... ~ oh my god, what IS that...??? (this is NOT inside any cloud). . It's, oh my god...it's hovering.. S: It's going up and down... SHIT.. K: Stand still... My god..look at it.. it's...BEAUTIFUL! S & K: MARIALISA, YOU GOT TO GET OUT HERE... S: OH MA... HURRY..., CLOSE THE Car door!! K: The camera is not picking up... S: Come on camera...come on, come on... M: What? S: Look down the road (public road), TELL ME WHAT YOU SEE AND SAY WE'RE NOT NUTS.. It's no car... K: Nope, it's hovering over the road... bouncing.. it's came out of that mountain... It came down from the mountain, it went to the left then the right - and now it's here... M: I see it. ...look at it... it's not on the ground.. (Size of a Volkswagon - illuminate orange) ~ it's hovering! S Look at the contours...do you see that Marilisa..?? K: There it goes, to the left, there it goes to the right,... oooops, it shot something!, wait... K. It's playing S: It's neat! S: Down K Down S: Left... K: Left.. BOTH: Round,...round.... up... UP! K: Oh wow, see it's moving around... it's going back and forth.. S: Right there... S: Dimming down... K: dimming more... Flash bright! dimming, S: Gone.. It's gone. K: There's something over there, flashes behind the cloud...INSIDE the cloud. It's just a tiny little cloud... (not the big circle cloud) -... S: What was that? K: It was a flash of yellow light ON THE FENDER, where did it come from...? K: Ohhhh, look it, look it....ahhhh, lookit ~ it's soooo beautiful, straight up, up -straight up, up down, up down, staright up at an angle, down, left, left, left, stilll going left...Marilisa look out the WINDOW... right, right/... shoot, the cameras NOT getting it... ohh, WOWWWW, reappeared, ~ S: back/forth...look at it move... K: lights..yes...dim... BOTH:WooooOOWWW, go, go , go !!! Look at it gooooo! K: look at it, look at it, straight.. up to the left,, up to the left, ..straight up, up,.. hover, ..right, hover, hover, right... BOTH: Up, up... it's that same one, the same one playing on the road... K: Ohhhhh. woww.. S Wowww, look at it play...!!! K: Up, sometimes the lights go off, there it is, going off, on, there it is.. S: It's got as brother, right up there on the range... K: I can't believe we seeing this S: I can't believe we're doing this... Now for the following time until 2:30am we were having continual sightings. Up to six ships at a time, appeared. They seemed to promt us to move north towards Rachel, in which we did. Mile by mile. New sightings came towrads us, ~ lead us north in curiosity. All in all, we had at least 40 sightings, ~ Sergel syas it's more like 50... The final to sightings were the greatest, and by then there wa sno more video tape and also by then, we were not so excited any more. We grew accustomed to the ships in such a short minimal periode of time. After an hour and a half, we were 'used' to them... There was no 'threat' no nothing, just playful, curious encounters ~ goes to show HOW fast we humans can grow accoustomed to things. I've had sightings before in my life, but only one-at-a-time and long bewteen. This was to be spoiled rotten by them. We were heading north attempting to find a road leading to a rather 'large' ship, that appeared to have landed, we attempted to get as close as possible. Then Sergel says we've got one behind us, ~I turn and there's a beautiful 'green' ship hovering... Then another one came in to the right, ~an orange one. We sat watching, enjoying and agreed upon turning the car around and get closer to the green object, more Pleiadian shaped than the others we had seen, which more or less appeard round, oblong. We drove up to a stop sign, took off the lights and watched it. Few minutes later, there appeared to be a truck or a car coming from north ~ we saw it's lights and motion and returned to watch the green ship. After some minutes, the truck still hadn't passed us so we turn to look, and the lights are still there, but still coming closer, and we return again to the green ship, constating that the orange 'landed' one was behind us, and a other orange one over the range to now our left, still there, and looked for the truck yet another time, (wanting it to just pass and 'get out of our way' ~and WOW, - at that same moment Marialisa wakes up and shouts, "GEEZZZZZZZZZ, have you seen the one right next to us???" We starring at what we had THOUGHT was a truck coming, and this object is now sitting hovering just above the road, right there...some 20 yards away... At the bottom of it , two bright lights in motion, but connected to the wholer ship, all in orange colors and hugh, meaning the width of the road and perhaps 10 ft high or more. It vibrated and was as if it were ..alive.. there was definately a feeling of life & intelligence... for several minutes we were paralysed in joy and disbelief ~ then it suddenly 'splitt off' in nonoseconds, like it broke up in several pieces like a stone skipping on watersurface... It was....needless to say, FASCINATING! Then totally gone. We returned of view towards the green ship, still there stationary in the air some 15-20 ft up off the ground on the other side of the road, maybe 50-75 yards away. We chose to make an attempt to get closer, which we did. We drove acroos the road, in on a sort of path-road and stopped the car and went out. Here we stood for almost 45 minutes and watched. It came closer, went back, hovered here there, back forth - up down slightly any big moves, just...easy nice moves. It was easy to see there were lights under the ship circulating in white and green. On the center brim of the ship , another band of lights revolving around it, in green. There were two lights in specific that stood out on this bandd, sharper green, and these stopped sometimes in our direction and held it's position for long moments (minutes) at a time. This particular sighting was the longest one of them all, and gave us real time to 'tune in' to it, and become 'aquainted' with it's presence. It was a true sense of that this object 'knew' we were there. We were feeling so relaxed about it all, didn't seem at all strange that we were there with UFO's, and the next thing we thought was like: "..so, now what?" We were ready for whatever next step would have evolved. It was as if everything was a normal event...and nothing more happened. It was still there, moving between 20 to 50 yards away back and forth towards and from us, now, the strange thing was (we talked about this on our way home,) that EVEN though it came close and went back ~ it SEEMED to maintain the same size at all times. Now that was something I just didn't want to analysize, it was just too unlogical. That doesn't happen. I SAW it came very close, and yet - went it went back to the hill, it was still the same size... I just 'accepted' what I saw, I saw it ~ and let it go. Sergel had seen this too and served to increase the weired and extrordinary perception... We started off from there and headed home, 2:30 am, ~ feeling tired, exhausted and very, very full of impressions and with a over 2 hours drive back home, we need ed to leave. The rest of the sky seemed calm and not to be any mentionable activity, the green one was till there, and followed us a bit down the road before it - dissapeared, into another dimension maybe - it just was gone...in a nanosecond. We had after passing down the ET highway, as they call it, three dark red lights following, ~ escorting us, nearly an hour back towards Clark County, which was the last thing we saw of them... It was the most incredable night ever! For all of us. I believe that having, ~ holding a positive mind, be open to the activity, not poising any mental threats onto what's going on, is a great help if you ever want to have the best of an experience if you should enter this area. Respect the areas boundaries. Now we know that you needn't even go into the area itself, as the sky is fully open anyway - and should they accept you as they accepted us, you'll have a wonderful treat and a lifetime experience. Just bring alot of warm clothes for these desert nights, - especially winter months. CONCLUSION We don't know what the truth about Area 51 is. Of rumors from books, the net, Bob Lazar, others claiming having worked there, reporst of observations of people visiting at night, ~ we know something is going on. Through my page, I've had individuals contact me having been in hangars both in Nevada and California, claiming having seen aliens working among our military. What we saw that night, we saw. We do not know whether the ships were terrestrial or extraterrestrial piloted, but we do know for sure, the flight skills of these ships definatelty were not terrestrial. Manuvering in such manners are beyond our ways of defeating gravity. Speeds, beyond what we have accheived. All motions of ships were silent, no sounds whatsoever. The ability to materialize, dematerialize and back again was increadable. We don't know what we saw, we didn't touch it. We just have to trust the beauty of it's abilities, and been in awe of it's capabilities. We have ways to go before we finally will manage to utilze such skills and technology. Rumors go that they did set in a human piolt in one of tehse ships and sent him off on a 90 degree turn, with high G's and the man was plastered inside the ship... Why the videos didn't record in not answerable, ~ it would have been our testimony to the rest of the world, however, maybe that wasn't meant to be. We feel fortunate to have had the experiences. A short sequence was all that 'stuck', which is a sequence compared to 'nothing' of our sightings. I was surprised to hear a B-727 referred to as a "heavy". The term "heavy" is used to identify a class of aircraft. I always thought it was a short hand identifier for wide body aircraft. After some quick research, here's what I learned... Below is the FAA's definition for the term "heavy". I am quoting from the Pilot/Controller Glossary Section of the 1992 edition of the FAR (Federal Aviation Regulations) - AIM (Airman's Information Manual): AIRCRAFT CLASSES For the purposes of Wake Turbulence Separation Minima, ATC (Air Traffic Control) classifies aircraft as Heavy, Large, and Small as follows: 1. Heavy - Aircraft capable of takeoff weights of 300,000 pounds or more whether or not they are operating at this weight during a particular phase of flight. 2. Large - Aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds, maximum cerificated takeoff weight, up to 3000,000 pounds. 3. Small - Aircraft of 12,500 pounds or less maximum certificated takeoff weight. Summary: All aircraft create wake turbulence, also called a vortex, as they move through the air. This vortex is emitted from the wingtips of the aircraft and can be very strong. In some cases strong enough to over power the aircraft behind it. The larger the aircraft, the stronger the wake or vortex. To help keep aircraft clear of danger, the FAA separates them into classes. These classes are used to determine the minimum distance by which the aircraft must be separated. The larger the aircraft; the greater the separation distance is needed to ensure safe flight. ========================================================================= From: [Name withheld by prior request; former military] Date: 96-12-22 04:39:46 EST A few thoughts: 1) It is my understanding that "HEAVY" prefixes are attached to wide body jets like Lockheed L-1011, Boeing 747, etc. for additional wake turbulence separation from all other aircraft. Generally, these aircraft are also less maneuverable than other jets, requiring additional maneuvering airspace from ATC. Officially, these are aircraft capable of takeofff weights of 300,000 pounds or more. 2) I don't think a 727 or 737 is ever capable of TO weights exceeding 300,000 pounds. 3) It's possible that Glenn may have mistaken call signs, aircraft, etc. It's interesting that JANET may apply to an entire class of federal flights. 4) For future follow-up by Glenn: It has been my experience as a pilot that tower controllers are generally very friendly when not busy. ATC tower phone numbers are usually listed in the phone book under federal government listings. If Glenn would call the number, he will probably get the tower supervisor. Ask him who flies with the "JANET" callsign. The worst that can happen is no answer. ========================================================================= FROM GLENN I am sure of the "Janet 6xx heavy" designation: I heard it several times on the radio. There is still a slim possibility it was not the 727 aircraft I thought it was, but the timing was right and I didn't find any other obvious candidates at the airport. My theory for the "heavy" designation is that it is intended to assure separation of this aircraft from others for security purposes, since these prisoner flights are obviously heavily guarded. Since Con Air flights apparently operate on a scheduled basis, the easy way to confirm would be to listen to the tower at about the same time on weekdays (10:30-11am). From: campbell@ufomind.com (Glenn Campbell, Las Vegas) Subject: 1983 Greenpeace Incursion into Test Site [Newspaper Research] Date: Fri, 27 Dec 1996 20:57:42 -0800 The article on Groom Lake history in the Spring 1996 Nevada Historical Quarterly (see messages earlier this month) mentions a reference I hadn't been aware of: an Apr. 18, 1983, article in the Las Vegas Review-Journal about the Greenpeace protesters who intruded into the Nevada Test Site from the Papoose Lake direction. Today, I went to the library to look up the article on microfilm, and here is what I found. There were four front-page articles in the Review-Journal on successive days, April 18-21, 1983. There was also at least one wire-service report in the Las Vegas Sun (which otherwise reported nothing). The copies I got of the articles were very poor and are impossible to scan, but here is a synopsis: Apr. 18: "Test Site Protestors Arrested." -- reports that several Greenpeace protesters are arrested after chaining themselves to the cattle guard at the main entrance to the Nevada Test Site, disrupting traffic for 10 minutes. At the same time, a Greenpeace spokesman announces that four other protesters have already entered the Test Site and set up a secret camp near Yucca Flat. A Test Site spokesman says that four Air Force helicopters are sweeping the area to try to find them. Greenpeace says the four hikers are Harald Zindler of West Germany, Ron Taylor of Great Britain, Jon Hinck of Seattle and Brian Fitzgerald of Boston. Although many other protesters had previously crossed the symbolic cattle guard at the entrance to the Test Site, DOE spokesman says he could recall no other previous incident in the history of the site in which someone had deliberately entered the body of the Test Site to protest testing. Apr. 19: "Officials Continue Search for Protesters." -- Greenpeace officials release photos of the hikers on the Test Site, but government search parties still can't find them. Greenpeace says the hikers entered the Test Site on Saturday (Apr. 16) "after taking a jeep ride over a number of backcountry trails. Then they hiked 15 to 20 miles to Yucca Flat." Apr. 20: "Test Site Protesters Captured." -- The four hikers are arrested as they move onto Yucca Flat, after the search was called off. They are charged with misdemeanor trespass. DOE attorneys will study the Atomic Energy Act to see if additional penalties are applicable. Apr. 20: "Search for Nuke Protesters Called Off" -- This UPI article, apparently out of date, reports that the protesters have still not been found, but government officials have stopped looking for them. Article includes a photo of the protesters displaying a Greenpeace banner inside the Test Site. A Greenpeace spokesman says the group took great pains to avoid Area 51, but the article does not indicate what route they took. "They did not go through that high security area," Greenpeace spokesman Peter Dykstra said. "We were aware of it and they took great pains to avoid it. We are not martyrs, spies or secret agents, but environmentalists." The area the protesters avoided is controlled by the Defense Department, not the Department of Energy. It is a top-secret region known only as "Area 51" and adjoins the northeast border of the Test Site. It is shown on no public maps and is believed to be used in the development of exotic aircraft. A government official said guards at Area 51 have orders "to shoot to kill" when they confront intruders. [Note: In 1983, before the Groom Mountain Range was taken, the protesters would have been able to legally drive to the edge of the Groom Lake bed. However, that might not have helped them much, since the land near the lakebed is exposed desert with nowhere to hide. I wonder if this 1983 incident and the worry about further intrusions might have prompted the Groom Range seizure in 1984.] Apr. 21: "$50,000 price tag put on test site protest" and an accompanying article, "Trespass is called step to disarmament." -- Greenpeace holds a press conference, where the two American trespassers speak. They face a May 4 court date on the misdemeanor trespassing charge in Beatty. Las Vegas attorney Gerald Hardcastle will represent them. Article does not indicate the route they took to get to Yucca Flat. Protesters will not discuss how they maintained radio contact with Greenpeace, nor will they say how photos of the group were smuggled out. Article includes a photo of the two men. POSSIBLE FURTHER RESEARCH -- Look for followup articles after the May 4 trial. -- Consult the newspaper microfiche index for 1983 (which I never did). -- I heard a rumor that the protesters were charged with the federal trespassing statute. I guess the mark of celebrity is being frequently misquoted in major magazines. Newsweek has put Campbell and the Area 51 Research Center in the first three paragraphs of a long article on conspiracies in its year-end issue. Big Print paragraphs. (My scanner isn't operational, so I can't put it on-line. Can someone else supply it?) Glenn Campbell is quoted on page 66... "There is alien contact with the military," Campbell says, though, he admits, "I don't have proof other than what I hear from my sources at Area 51." The problem is that I don't recall saying those words. If I said the first sentence, it was accompanied by a lot of qualifiers, and I am certain I didn't say the second sentence at all. I pride myself on precision of speech, especially when talking to reporters, and I don't have any sources at Area 51. How, then, could I hear anything from them? The Newsweek reporter was Trent Gegax who visited me for about 15 minutes in April. My previous burning was by Randle Rothenberg, writing for the September Esquire, who visited me for about a hour and also recorded a lot of things I don't recall saying. Reading these articles, I discover a Glenn Campbell I never knew. (I certainly can't complain, though. Throughout most of the Freedom Ridge era, I basically got a free ride from the press, with nary a skeptical question asked. There were no fewer errors and misquotes, but they were usually in my favor.) My usual position is that I don't dismiss UFO government cover-up stories; I consider them possible and worth my time to investigate, but I've never said that I have any proof at all, even from "sources." I know plenty of people who DID work at Area 51, but they are as much groping for answers as I am. (I don't consider "Jarod 2" an Area 51 worker and never refer to him as such. He tells an interesting story taking place elsewhere, but like others it is entirely unverifiable.) Maybe I am nit-picking purist from the old school, but there is a certain journalistic convention I feel sensitive about: the quotation marks. A journalist can misspell my name and interpret my motivations any way he wants. However, when words appear in quotes, it should be something I actually said, word for word, not a paraphrase of what I said or a journalist's vague memory of what I must have said. In my four years here, I have often read in quotations things that I never said, and I always find it irritating, even when the quotes portray me in a positive light. Young reporters seem to have no respect for the old ways. Of course, I've been burned by the TV media as well -- by things that I really did say and wished I hadn't. Most reporters, in any media, arrive on location already knowing what story they will produce. Then it is just a matter of letting the camera run until they get something that fits. Print reporters have the advantage that they can also rearrange words to achieve this end. But that's just the way the game works, and it bothers me only momentarily. I guess another mark of celebrity is not caring too much about how millions may see you. In the Newsweek issue, Pierre Salinger comes out a lot worse for announcing his bogus TWA missile theory. I suppose I could weather that kind of humiliation, too. You want me to dance naked on live TV? I'd avoid it, but it wouldn't upset me much if I were "caught on tape." The amusing lesson I am beginning to learn is that it makes no difference at all what millions of people think, because those millions don't do anything. In UFO research, Area 51 research, buffet research or any other exploratory field, there are probably less than a dozen people who are accomplishing anything, and what Time prints on its cover or CNN broadcasts worldwide doesn't bring any new resources to the field. I also find that what is printed in worldwide publications isn't much more accurate or reliable than messages posted to internet newsgroups; they just have better pictures. People look to publicity that same way they approach aliens: they expect it to break down barriers, solve problems and lead them to truth. In fact, the only thing publicity accomplishes is worldwide humiliation of one party or another, which sometimes can be useful (when, say, the poor Air Force is the foil) but often backfires. The question is, who created these hoaxes and why? I wouldn't discount the possibility that an intelligence agency created them to serve some secondary agenda. Wierder plots were hatched by both sides during the Cold War, in attempts to, say, obtain intelligence information or change the opponent's focus. Remember all those old Mission Impossible episodes? Phelps and team would create some illusion that ultimately would convince a dictator to let down his defenses. For example, the Russians could have created the MJ-12 documents in some convoluted plan to obtain information about US defenses. I can't think of what that plan might be, but maybe it would become clear if you knew more. (Similarly, an aquaintance of mine believes that the Billy Meier saucer photos were an Eastern bloc plan to obtain sensitive intelligence information from the west. It seems complicated at first, but once you hear his story, it begins to make sense. I have come to see that, regardless of what the government knows, there a lot of people working for the government who are personally interested in UFOs, whether or not their organizations are. Like a Trojan Horse, they might try to analyse the Meier photos -- and audio tapes as well -- with secret government computers, which might ultimately give the Soviets feedback on US data analysis capabilities.) On the other hand, if the government UFO program was indeed real, such fake documents could be a way to slowly release the information to the public. They could be close to the truth but skewed enough that they are ultimately dismissable and don't compromise the whole story. The W-2 is a very easy document to fake, which leaves nothing to support the story but Lazar's less than stellar "reputation" and "word." I'd bet his story is a hoax in some form, but again, that doesn't mean it is uninteresting. Bottom line: I haven't made much sense of it all either, and I don't really try to. I just collect whatever data comes my way and try to find a place for it on the web. If all the relevant data is available on the web, then eventually interesting connections will be found, and most mysteries will solve themselves. That, at least, has been the reaction to a Rockefeller-sponsored report entitled Unidentified Flying Objects Briefing Document: The Best Available Evidence. Starting in 1944 with Allied pilot reports of "Foo Fighters"--strange lights originally believed to be secret Japanese rockets=97the briefing runs through 22, reasonable sounding case studies, touching on the infamous Roswell incident of 1947, in which the U.S. government is alleged to have recovered an alien craft that crashed in the New Mexico desert with extraterrestrial on board. It ends with sightings in Michigan two years ago. The report concludes emphatically that UFOs are for real and that the governments of the world know more than they are telling us. If Rockefeller were trying to sell this report, he could not have picked a better time. With two big-budget space-alien movies Independence Day and The Arrival, hitting screens this summer, the public seems to be in an extraterrestrial mood. But the report is not for the general consumption. Only 1,000 copies were published and distributed to "influential people in government, industry and science, including a lot of people on Capitol Hill," according to Don Berliner, the author, who refuses to identify any recipients. "If these people are going to work towards this, they will do it behind the scenes," he says. "If you were running for reelection, would you like to be identified as 'the flying saucer guy'?" Probably not. But at least one member of Congress admits to receiving a copy of the report: Representative Steve Schiff, a Republican from New Mexico, who sits on the House science committee. Schiff has gone to bat for UFO believers in the past. It was due to his insistence that the General Accounting Office first inquired into the missing Roswell files, some of which were eventually released (though they contained nothing about aliens). But Schiff has stopped talking to the press about UFO-related subjects, and claims his original interest had to do solely with the illegality of keeping the files classified. But it may be time for Schiff and his colleagues to change their tune. According to a report released this spring by the Congressional Quarterly Researcher, "50 percent of Americans think flying saucers are real, and that the government is hiding the truth about them." The hotel is two blocks from the Janet terminal where flights leave for Area 51 and Tonopah. If the extravaganza includes aerial shots, then the terminal may show up in the background. The implosion will appear on the Fox network as part of "Sinbad's Stupid New Years Eve," or something like that. The implosion will take place at 9pm local time, or midnight Eastern. Through the magic of television, it will be seen again at midnight in the west, too. Aside from the demolition, about $2 million in fireworks will be expended for the event, in an overhyped event to unveil the coming themed attraction at the site. Look for about six passenger jets with a red stripe down the side parked at a small terminal. Their appearance will probably be very subtle; although the hotel will be well lit, the surroundings may not be. The terminal would appear in the background directly facing the hotel when the hotel is seen from rear from the air. The terminal is in the nearest corner of the airport. Look very, very carefully and you might see myself and a hardy band of Interceptors waving from an apartment complex between the hotel and the terminal. We will be protesting the participation of the evil Fox empire.
