For the most part, I'd say that it was about the best
issue-specific treatment of the story with the exception of the
60 Minutes segment highlighting Prof. Turley's efforts in
pursuing alleged environmental crimes at our favorite secret
base. And it had nice music too.
Jim Wilson from PopMech reeks of Plan 9 from Outer Space -- what
an idiot! Called him a couple months ago and he didn't want to
talk about it. Called his editor yesterday just to remind him
that his sci-tech editor couldn't find his way out of a potato
(e) sack. He said the only negative feedback they got on the
A51-has-moved-to-Utah tale was a nasty letter from Psychospy and
it was only "because he has a financial stake in keeping people
thinking the base is still there". I then reminded him that his
magazine has a financial stake in selling magazines chockablock
full if disinformation. Our conversation ended quickly
thereafter.
One thing that pissed me off was all my base shots, including my
new aerial stills and video were the visual backbone of the show
and I didn't receive any play in the credits. Not only did they
ignored the rented Buick LeSabre I destroyed while filming, but
they totally dropped my evidence and allegation that we have
built a transatmopheric vehicle (watch PopSci or Jane's Defense
Weekly for my upcoming small story on that). Oh well, at least
their check didn't bounce.
I was me -- yet tolerable, the Minister deeply beautiful, The
good Merlin a gem of great value, Psychospy unwavering, LeVier a
true pleasure, Hand (Mahood) sartorially resplendent, Knapp
whiteknuckled at the helm of his sinking story, Chuckie his bad
lucid self ("just turn the knob", the Travis's retreading the
same old crap -- but at the very least, the UFO drivel was kept
to a marginal minimum. But what does it really matter? Because
after all is said and done, we all are now nothing more than
"Darlington's colorful characters".
Mistakes were made. It could have been worse.
