MERINT Report in Project Blue Book files

MERINT is the maritime equivalent of the aircrew's CIRVIS
(Communication Instruction for Reporting Vital Intelligence
Sightings). After talking to many of the people who are
familiar with government UFO documents, no one could remember
ever seeing a MERINT report on UFOs. (Both MERINT and CIRVIS
reporting instructions were contained in JANAP 146 E. Now the
instructions are in other publications.)
Well, there is at least one MERINT report in the Project Blue
Book files.

# of objects: 1 Course: 200 degrees Source: MERINT
Summary: Very white bright sphere w/lights like portholes w/short
reddish tail like a rocket observed fm ship to come out of clouds
fm 40 dgr true and disappear into clouds at 100 dgr ture after
flight of 5-7 seconds. No Sound. Steady course of 200 dgr true.
Believed to be quite low. No estimation on size.
Comments: Sighting characteristic of meteor. Exceptionally low
penetaration.
Conclusion: Was Astronomical: Meteor.

There you have it. Not much of a report. Now everyone has seen a
MERINT report.
