Gerald Bull and super cannon on Disc. Channel

Discovery Channel just ran a special on Gerald Bull. Apparently, he
got his inspiration from an HG Wells story where men were lauched to
the moon via a large cannon.
He received funding from Canada and the US army to build a test
cannon. Using this cannon he managed to fire a missile 120miles into
space, but no orbit was achieved. He moved to his property in Canada
to build a rocket to fire out of the cannon, which would then fire
boosters to gain orbital velocity.
His work in Canada stopped when Canada pulled funding to show their
disagreement with the american buildup in Vietnam. Bull began
freelancing to raise money for his cannon. After doing work for South
Africa, he was arrested by the US Gov and imprisoned.
After release he began freelancing again. After being contracted by
the Iraqi gov. to build a cannon that could strike Isreal, he was
assasinated. The assasin was never found.
The Discovery Channel special was a two part show, the first half was
on the Army training of sharpsooters - "One shot, one kill". The
second half was on Gerald Bull - "Super Cannon". 1/14/98 9:00PM
