Subject: Tikaboo peak is under surveilance
Date: Sun, 26 Jul 1998 19:36:51 -0700 (PDT)
I have just returned from a trip to Area 51 in which I hiked Tikaboo
peak. On the trail (using the term loosely) I met up with a mysterious
man whom I will refer to as "John" and I hiked a good portion of the
trail with him. Glenn Campbell refers to this man as "Lt. Col. Bullshit"
(when it comes to the characters around this base who knows?) He claims
to work somewhere on the Test Site. I couldn't get him to be more
specific but he eluded several times to working at Area 51. He did point
out something interesting to me as we hiked. The military has installed
a surveilince camera on Badger Mountain to monitor the trail to Tikaboo
Peak. This camera is clearly visible to the naked eye. I took a peak
through my binoculars and shot some video of it. Looked like a camera to
me. (I made sure to give the boys back in the control room the ol' one
finger salute.)
"John" told me this camera was installed 6 months ago so they could get
any "sensitive projects" off the runway before anyone reached the peak.
Although I have to question the credibility of anyone who claims to work
for the military and passes along sensitive information so easily I
asked him about several different things and I thought I would pass some
of his responses.
-Black projects are only tested about 2 nights a month at Area 51, most
of them have been moved to Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. He also said
"I won't tell you their location but they are all completely shielded
from the naked eye so it wouldn't matter anyways." Lazar worked at Area
51 but not S4. The military has installed cameras on mountains all
around Tikaboo Valley "They can see everything" (This last one seems a
little paranoid to me, but hey, you never know.) He also told me that he
could not be allowed to be interviewed on camera.
Whether you choose to believe these claims or not is up to you, just
thought I'd pass it along.

A claim of a camera on Badger Mountain ought to be easy enough to check
out: Just hike over and look at it. It would be big news if it were
true, because this is public land, miles from the military border
and the Air Force probably has not applied for BLM permission.
However, I am skeptical of the ability of someone on Tikaboo peak to
identify a camera on Badger Mountain. On the map, they are at least
a mile and a half apart. There _is_ a microwave relay on Badger
mountain, and I wonder if this is what they are referring to.
I assume the microwave relay is Air Force property, part of the
communications network for the Nellis air warfare range. There
is probably a right-of-way assigned to this installation by the BLM.
I am not sure it would be proper for a right-of-way to be issued for
a communications relay and then the Air Force place a surveillance
device there. At the least, it would be a political problem.
The Air Force could be monitoring Tikaboo Peak, but I think it
would be easier with high powered optics from inside their own
borders, not from public land.
I know only one person who has hiked Badger Mountain, and that
was years ago. It needs to be done. To get to the microwave relay
looks like a hike of about 90 minutes from Badger Spring. The
mountain could offer a view of Area 51.
BTW: "Lt. Col. Bullshit" is the term used by some Rachel residents
for a guy named Jeff who lives in town in a modest travel trailer,
very conspicuously wears an Air Force uniform and tells tales
similar to those attributed to "John" above. I have never met him.
He initially told people he worked at Area 51, at the same time
he was leading visitors on tours to Tikaboo Peak to see it. Now
he tells residents that he is retired. You, too, can arrange his
guide services. Just contact the Quik-Pick gas station.
