Shulman sets deadline: lawyers on Monday

From: campbell@ufomind.com (Glenn Campbell, Las Vegas)
Date: Fri, 13 Mar 1998 21:28:49 -0800

Follow-up to: http://www.ufomind.com/misc/1998/mar/d13-001.shtml.

Shulman just sent me this message as a comment to a Ufomind page. He
apparently sent it a few minutes after talking to me on the phone.
(This is surprising to me because I didn't say much during the call,
and I thought we parted on good terms.)

At the time he wrote this message, I had not yet sent my message
about him to the mailing list. I wonder how his lawyers are going
to respond to that one.

This message brings to mind a couple of more points for my B.S.
detection system, which follow.

               ["Dear Mr. Wang... please clarify"]

Hi, Glen and family...

The allegations that Ed Wang is "promoting" ACC are incorrect.
He just likes us, I guess... As do the vast majority of the
mainstream UFO community.

However, I find it interesting that Glen Campbell himself
would post libelous posts about me here. Here we have a guy
who sits outside Area 51 thinking he's looking for government
harbored UFO's, staring down Wackenhut detectives.

What wacko nonsense. Maintain an air of false mystery?
I'll say: great Drama, lousy detective work, Campbell.

In our city, Wackenhut is a joke, their guards are hired to
keep an eye on things not requiring much security.

Yet Mr. Campbell would have us all believe that we should IGNORE
everything else, and focus, as he has, on Area 51?

Bunk, Campbell. It looks to me like you're busy trying to sell
books and market cover up. Of COURSE you don't want the UFO
cover up for once an for all solved.

You are like a Cancer Surgeon who sees that a simple pill might
end the need for his services.

You still have until Monday to remove the Wang and other libel
posts here.

Then, you become just another Lan Lamphere for our lawyers...

That's MONDAY, Glen. Sorry I wasted tens cents on calling
a man with no moral conscience.

Don't say I didn't warn you about our attorneys.

.. Jack A. Shulman

MORE FEATURES FOR B.S. DETECTION SYSTEM

-- REFERENCE TO LAWYERS. Another feature common to liars is their
frequent reference to their lawyers (or "solicitors" for British
liars), which are almost always imaginary. Liars frequently use the
words "libel," "slander" and "defamatory," without specifying what was
misrepresented. (If something supposedly defamatory appears on a
website, it shouldn't be too hard to quote, instead of just referring
to "that libel you have on your site.")

-- QUICK TO THREATEN. Most liars don't understand moderation; they
jump directly to full nuclear threats.

-- DRIFTING ATTENTION. Liars can't stick to the point, but always
seem to drift into irrelevant areas. In this case there is a drift
into COUNTER CHARGES -- making accusations about ones critics instead
of addressing the criticism itself.

Note that Shulman has ordered me to "remove the Wang and other libel
posts" by Monday but he hasn't specified the documents. (I pointed
out on the phone that there are about 30,000 documents on Ufomind.)
How do I distinguish a "libel post" from a non-libelous one. On the
phone I told him to "send me the URLs" of any documents he thought
were inaccurate. This shouldn't be too hard for a computer guy.

The reference to "Lan Lamphere" is characteristic of the name-dropping
feature: the use of proper names instead of content words. (Lamphere
is apparently another ufologist who has challenged Shulman. Both
Shulman and Wang seem unhappy about him.)

The reference to "Glen and family" is curious and a bit disturbing.
Where does the "family" come in? Should I brace for another anonymous
"Martha Spader"-type episode in which my alleged masturbation and
molestation of children is described? Oh, well, I guess it would be
better than those corporate lawyers Shulman is going to let loose.

Tune in Monday... MONDAY, you hear!

In the meantime, I am building what I call a "virtual polygraph" -- a
set of rules for detecting liars on the internet. All I need now are
subjects to test it on. Where will I find them? Too bad I am working
in the UFO and paranormal fields, where honesty prevails. I hope I
don't have to wait too long.

Glenn Campbell

BTW: A while back, Whitley Strieber gave me 24 hours to remove
"actionable" material from my website. Whatever happened to that?
