Raymond Moody accepts appointment to Bigelow Chair in Consciousness
Studies at The University of Nevada Las Vegas
Release: May 10, 1998
Dr Raymond Moody announced today his acceptance of the Bigelow Chair
in Consciousness Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for
the 98/99 school year.
This distinguished chair is a one year, visiting appointment,
beginning August 1, 1998.
Dr Moody states "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach again,
and believethat UNLV should be applauded for it's determination to
adhere to the strictest standards of scientific rigor regarding claims
of rational "evidence" or "proof" of the continuation of consciousness
upon bodily death". He continues," the extraordinary states of
consciousness commonly deemed paranormal are an enduring human concern
that will not go away, and I have been hopeful that students with a
serious interest in these topics would have a setting within which
they could learn about paranormal phenomena from a non- ideological
perspective".
Dr. Moody will be teaching two classes a semester and is planning on
bringing in internationally known researchers in the consciousness
field during his time at UNLV.
Some of the experts that Dr. Moody has invited to speak in community
forums are, Dr. Brian Weiss, expert in past life regression , Dr.
Joan Borysenko, expert in mind/body connection, Dianne Arcangel,
expert in the field of facilitated apparitions, and work with the
dying. Dr. Ken Ring, expert in the field of Near Death Studies, Dr.
Melvin Morse, expert in children's near death experiences. These are
just a few of the well know, and highly respected individuals Dr.
Moody expects to host during his year as the Bigelow Chair. Dr.
Moody's classes will be open to a wide variety of university students
as well as the general public.
The consciousness studies chair is a part of the College of Sciences
at UNLV.
