Something is wrong with Anunnaki technology

According to Sitchin, the Anunnaki had the technology to manipulate the
genetic code. Their motive for creating the Adam or the first human was
"slavery". They needed a labor force to mine their precious gold so they could
construct a protective environmental shield around their home planet, Nibiru.
Why couldn't they just "transmute" another base metal into gold, since they
were so "advanced"? If the alchemists of the middle ages allegedly could do
this, then to such an advanced race as the Anunnaki, this would be child's
play. They could have produced all the gold they needed through some type of
technologically advanced energy to element conversion process.
I think this discrepancy is a very serious flaw in Mr. Sitchin's work. His
entire series of books over stresses the importance of gold to the Annunaki.
Allowing a possible exception to the scientific principle (of our type 0
civilization) that elements of matter cannot be transformed, an advanced
technology of a type 1 or 2 civilization such as Nibiru, IMHO, should be
capable of achieving this. Somehow the idea that an technologically advanced
race of beings would need slaves to mine for gold seems incongruous and non-
sequitur.
