The process is called fusion. It takes a tremendous amount of energy to
fuse a lighter element into gold. Or you could use fission and work down
from some heavier element, again, this takes enormous energies. The reasons
for this are beyond the scope of this discussion, but the facts are well
established. Other "low energy" techniques may be possible, but until we
know about them that is merely speculation, and cannot be used as "proof"
that Sitchin (or anyone else) is wrong about anything.

That the Alchemists said that they converted lead to gold does not mean
the actually accomplished it. They are also said to have grown miniature
human beings (homunculi) using techniques that seem highly unlikely to
accomplish anything. Their methods were not merely chemical, they were also
astrological and magical, fields of knowledge that are generally not
considered "super-science". Arguing that Sitchin is wrong because Anunnaki
should have been able to manufacture gold out of corn-flakes (or some other
material) if the Alchemists were able to convert base metals to gold, is
like saying the Cubs can't win the World Series because the Packers have
already won the Super Bowl (just examples, please lets not start a sports
thread!). They are different fields of endeavor entirely. Not to mention
that the accomplishments of either group under discussion are poorly
understood at best.

If the exact technical capabilities of the Anunnaki were know, we might
be able to make judgments like this. However, nothing certain is know about
them (assuming their existence for the moment), what little that is "know"
is from the translation of ancient records which were based on the beliefs
of people living in those times. Whether or not those beliefs were based on
direct contact or had been passed along as verbal history is an important
issue.

Additionally, can we be certain that the Anunnaki were entirely truthful
and open in their disclosures to humanity, who they allegedly previously
tried to destroy? Would slave owners be concerned at all what they said as
long as the slaves did what was required of them?. Gold could have many
uses besides the rather odd use that Sitchin derives from the texts. Ind
eed, the primary practical use of gold is for electronics. Obviously, just
as the First World countries rely heavily on Third World countries for
labor and resources in our present economy, so we should not be surprised
if slave labor was used by "Ancient Astronauts" as long as it got the job
done according to their time table.

The ultimate point I am trying to make is that whatever the ancient
records say, they cannot be taken as absolute truth, but neither should
they simply be ignored if they fail to match our preconceived notions.
