Chapter 2: Food and Lodging
Your body is not well-suited for extended spaceflight or activities in
a vacuum, but it is a remarkably versatile vehicle for travel on
Earth. The human organism is capable of a wide range of planetary
interface activities, from swimming rivers to climbing mountains to
walking long distances in high heels. With the touch of a finger, the
body can operate a variety of specialized equipment extending its
abilities -- from cars to computer keyboards -- while sounds generated
in its throat allow direct communication with the natives. What's
more, being an organic vehicle, the body is almost completely
self-maintaining as long as certain basic needs are met.<P>
The body's physical requirements may be chemically complex, but they
are easy to recognize. The body will usually tell you whenever
something is missing, and the necessary supplies can be obtained
wherever humans reside....
